Product description & details
The Dwarf Lilyturf, Ophiopogon japonicus ‘Kyoto’ (also ‘Kyoto Dwarf’), is a grass-like plant from Southeast Asia. It is also the dwarf form of the classic Ophiopogon japonicus and only grows to around 10cm high. The leaf color is a dark green, which looks slightly bluish in the light.
It cannot be cultivated permanently underwater, but it survives in the aquarium for up to 12 months. In the terrarium, paludarium, vivarium or Wabi Kusa, however, it is relatively undemanding, although it grows very slowly. It mainly grows in width rather than height and therefore does not need to be shortened. Over time, Ophiopogon japonicus ‘Kyoto’ forms a dense carpet using side shoots and is therefore ideal as a ground cover. The side shoots can of course also be separated and transplanted elsewhere. The Dwarf Lilyturf is somewhat hardy even in Central Europe, but is optimally kept in the terrarium at temperatures between 10 and 30°C.
