Product description & details

Alternanthera reineckii ‘Red‘ is a color breed of Alternanthera reineckii. Hardly any other stem plant is as colorful as this variety. The stem, top and bottom of the leaves are colored brown-red to cherry-red. However, the plant needs good lighting and a sufficient supply of CO2 for intensive coloring. The growth rate is medium, so the stems should be shortened or pruned every 6-8 weeks. For discus aquariums, this South American plant is a color enrichment in combination with sword plants.

With its deep red colors, Alternanthera reineckii ‘Red’ offers a beautiful contrast to green – especially light green – plants. This variant grows relatively compactly and reaches a height of around 50cm, making it particularly suitable for the aquarium background. Regular trimming also stimulates branching of the stems.

In Vitro Plants:
Plants grown in the laboratory have the great advantage of being guaranteed to be free of algae spores, pathogens, snails or other pests. Once the originally sealed in vitro pot has been opened, you have to plant them quickly! To do this, wash off the gel or nutrient solution with room temperature water, divide the plants into several small portions and place them in the aquarium. The best way to press the fine plants into the substrate is with aquascaping tweezers.

Potted plants:
As a rule, nurseries cultivate the plants emersed, i.e. over water. As soon as you put the plants in the aquarium, some species may initially shed the emersed leaves. However, the submerged leaves grow back quite quickly. Our potted plants come from well-known manufacturers such as Songrow (Holland), Tropica (Denmark) and Dennerle (Germany). There are usually no problems with shrimp here. However, we recommend watering the plants for shrimp aquariums for 1-2 days before inserting them. The rock wool in the pot should be removed as much as possible before inserting the plant.

Plant portions:
We also offer some plants, such as mosses or floating plants, portioned in cups. We usually indicate the cup size in the description, but we would like to point out that the filling quantities may vary slightly depending on the manufacturer or batch.
