Product description & details

In nature, many of our aquarium fish, amphibians and invertebrates feed on small insects and their larvae as well as other small aquatic animals. Giving live food represents a very natural and optimal diet for these species.

Daphnia, also known as water fleas, with a small size of around 1-5mm are ideal for feeding very small to medium-sized aquarium animals. Since they swim freely, they are popular with animals in all aquarium areas. Water fleas have a high fiber content and a low fat content, which is why they can be fed more often. They are ideal for very small to medium-sized fish, crabs, amphibians such as axolotls or newts. Feeding daphnia can significantly increase their willingness to reproduce, especially in fish.

Our live food is delivered every Wednesday (rarely Thursday) and can be shipped “express” the same day. For larger order quantities, shipping might be delayed by 1 week.

Since an aquarium is a small, self-contained biological system and too much food can put a lot of strain on the water, you should only feed as much as will be eaten in a short period of time. The more polluting the feed, the shorter this time should be. Live and frozen food as well as most (protein-rich) fish foods should be eaten within a few minutes, food sticks for shrimp and crabs in about 2-3 hours.

If you happen to get too much food, the leftover food should be removed from the aquarium after 24 hours at the latest.

Exceptions are of course the permanent food varieties, which are designed for long-term feeding. This includes holiday and weekend food, but also mineral stones or brown leaves like catappa, walnut or oak leaves.
