Product description & details
Tylomelania sp. Mini Yellow, also known as Mini Yellow Rabbit Snail or Orange Poso Rabbit Snail, is a freshwater snail whose natural habitat is Lake Poso on the Indonesian island of Sulawesi. The Mini Yellow Rabbit Snail remains quite small, measuring a maximum of 3 cm. Typical of this species is the yellow foot – although there are also many animals with a black or black-yellow foot – and the black shell, which is increasingly reddish towards the tip and often has a white tip.
Care in the aquarium
As long as the basic needs of the little Tylomelania are taken into account, it is an easy to care for and robust snail. Due to its small size, it can be kept in aquariums of 20 liters or more. Due to its natural origin (Lake Poso in the Sulawesi region), this snail is used to very high temperatures and pH values, which is why the water temperature should never fall below 22°C and is ideally 25-30°C. The pH should be between 7.0 and 8.5. As with most species of snails, medium to hard water is ideal, as the shell can be damaged if the water is too soft. A substrate that is not too coarse such as sand, soil or fine gravel should be preferred, as the Mini Yellow Rabbit Snail likes to burrow.
Feeding
The Tylomelania sp. Mini Yellow feeds mainly on plant-based food, such as dead plant parts or algae, and can also be fed food tabs, snail or shrimp food in the aquarium.
Sexual characteristics and breeding
The Mini Yellow Rabbit Snail has separate sexes, but the sexes cannot be distinguished from the outside. Propagation is possible in fresh water without any further intervention. This viviparous snail species releases a single young every 2-3 months, which is why it is unlikely that there will be an overpopulation in the aquarium.
